Zero Lifting is Possible!

Is it possible to eliminate caregiver lifting? Some people might wonder if the equipment is actually available. It is!  Really though, there are only three ways to completely eliminate lifting.  All have advantages and disadvantages.

ErgoNurse bed repositioning
ErgoNurse uses sheets to move patients, and also to get them on to slings without lifting.
Advantages: No need for slings (expensive and uncomfortable) because it uses sheets.  Much less expensive than ceiling lifts. Can be moved to another room when needed. Works for spinal precautions.
Disadvantages: Does not transfer, must use mobile lift equipment for transfer. Also does not assist the patient to stand.

Ceiling Lift
Ceiling Lift (Arjo shown, there are at least 15 manufacturers of ceiling lifts)
Advantages: Great for transfers. Can reposition in bed, if the patient is left on the repositioning sling.
Disadvantages: Higher cost due to installation requirements. A track must be installed in every room where immobile patient will receive care. Must leave the patient on the sling 100% of the time if it is used for repositioning.  This is expensive and can be uncomfortable. Some caregivers have reported this is an awkward way to reposition patients in their beds.

Mobile Lift

Mobile Lift (Liko shown, there are over 30 mobile lift manufacturers)
Advantages: Can be used for both transfers and repositioning.
Disadvantages: Cannot be stored next to use area in patient's room due to space considerations. Caregivers have to go fetch the equipment. If used for repositioning, the patient must remain on the sling 100% of the time.  Some caregivers have reported this is an awkward way to reposition patients in their beds.

Sit to Stand

Sit to Stand (Multiple Manufacturers)
This one is being used to help a patient go to the bathroom. These are also often used to help the patient gain strength so they can stand on their own.
